Commentary on Campaign: Good Government Is the Answer

By: Florida Times-Union Editorial Board

Potholes don't have politics, the saying goes.

Therefore, many issues on the local level can be removed from the harshest kind of politics.

Public safety and environmental quality, for instance, have broad appeal.

For instance, public support of major reform in government has increased from 37 percent in 1997 to 66 percent in 2019, reports Newsweek.

Dissatisfaction with the effectiveness of federal government leads to calls like “drain the swamp.”

Issues become more difficult on a national scale, but bipartisan initiatives still take place quietly in Washington but they often don't make news because there is little controversy.

Nevertheless, the Times-Union Editorial Board seeks to support any effort that will improve the quality of life of our readers.

On a national scale, we support bipartisan initiatives like a new one called The Campaign for Common Sense by a group called Common Good.
