In Memoriam Soléi Spears

Common Good is heartbroken over the fatal shooting of our former intern, Soléi Spears. Soléi was a bright light who radiated warmth and kindness. She was smart, empathetic, driven by her curiosity of the world and absolutely brimming with the promise of great things to come.

Soléi grew up in Brooklyn where she was a participant in the Breakthrough New York program. After graduating from Millennium Brooklyn High School where she earned its highest honor, a scholarship awarded to a first-generation college student, Soléi went on to major in Political Science at CUNY Baruch and was the recipient of a ScholarshipPlus award. As a member of the CUNY Service Corps, Soléi travelled to Puerto Rico to provide critical reconstruction and revitalization services to the residents and vulnerable communities. Most recently, Soléi was named Communications Director for the Black Students Union at Baruch.

Soléi’s death is a huge loss for all of us.

Friends of Soléi’s mother have created a GoFundMe for Soléi’s youngest sister. Please consider a donation.
