Public Leadership: The Difference CEOs Can Make

At a luncheon event hosted by the Committee for Economic Development (CED), Howard cited the lack of a value structure in society as an impediment to CEO involvement in civic affairs. According to Howard, the collapse of authority structures also makes civic engagement an unpleasant and frustrating experience. CEOS need to feel that they can make a difference and have an impact on political outcomes. The current paralysis in government and intense bipartisanship deter business leaders from becoming involved.
