Diane Ravitch Receives Public Service Award March 14, 2006 Diane Ravitch, both a noted education historian and member of Common Good’s Advisory Board, was honored this week with the Kenneth J. Bialkin/Citigroup Public Service Award. At the ceremony, Ms. Ravitch was praised by Randi Weingarten, President of the Union Federation of Teachers, and Harold Levy, former New York City Schools Chancellor. In her acceptance speech, Ravitch emphasized the “simple truths” that somehow have gotten lost in decades of school reform – including the need for teacher authority to run the classroom.
