Healthcare Reform and Patient Safety: Challenges & Opportunities for Medicine and the Law

April 1, 2008

Location: Laramie, WY

As part of our ongoing state outreach efforts, Common Good cosponsored a symposium with several of the University of Wyoming’s schools and the Wyoming Healthcare Commission.  The forum, Health Care Reform and Patient Safety: Challenges & Opportunities for Medicine and the Law, took place between Tuesday, April 1st and Thursday, April 3rd in Laramie, Wyoming.  The event brought together a range of experts to discuss patient safety challenges facing health care providers in Wyoming and across the country.

Dr. Dennis O’Leary, the event’s keynote speaker and immediate past president of The Joint Commission, offered perspectives on the evolution of the patient safety movement, and implications for the future.  Other speakers included representatives from health care providers, quality organizations, and the legal community.  Over the course of the event, the presenters provided information on the broad challenges in patient safety, and offered proposals to improve care, reduce medical errors, and compensate medical injuries.
