Liability and Patient Health

March 4, 2003

Location: AEI-Brookings Joint Center for Regulatory Studies, Washington, DC

On March 4, Common Good and the AEI-Brookings Joint Center for Regulatory Studies co-sponsored a forum at AEI in Washington, entitled "Liability and Patient Health." The Forum comprised two panels: The Effect of Liability on Patient Health and Assessing Possible Reforms. For the biographies of the panelists, please click here.

The first panel examined the impact of liability on the quality and availability of health care. The second examined existing and imagined alternative adjudication and compensation structures from a patient perspective. Alternatives include a special medical court, a no-fault system versus a fault-based administrative system, as well as a system based on the vaccine injury compensation model. Alex M. Azar II, General Counsel of the Department of Health and Human Services, gave the Keynote Address.
