Common Good Colorado Releases Survey Results on the Need to Reform the State's Zero-Tolerance Laws

Colorado teachers and principals see a clear need for reform of state laws that hamstring effective classroom discipline, according to a March 2009 survey of educators by Common Good Colorado.

“Educators have their hands tied in Colorado,” said Ann Marie, executive director of Common Good Colorado.  “On the one hand, when dealing with habitually disruptive students, they can’t move swiftly enough to respond, while on the other, zero-tolerance policies don’t allow any discretion to find a punishment that actually fits the particular situation.”
