Security Guards’ Contract

The New York State Labor Relations Act (Art. 20 of Chap. 31 of the New York State Consolidated Laws) governs collective bargaining in New York State and requires schools and other employers to bargain in good faith with groups of employees. That doesn't sound so bad until you read the contracts.

The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 300 negotiates on behalf of the security guards employed by the New York City public schools. A copy of the contract is unavailable, but you can learn more about the SEIU here.

The SEIU Local 300 also negotiates the contract between janitors and the New York City public schools. Read more about the contract here.
