New York State Charter School StatuteThinking of becoming a charter school to get out from under all the law and regulation? Not a good plan. Charters in New York State are not under-regulated. The office of Public School Choice Programs handles coordinating the review of charter school applications and proposed charters. They also make recommendations to the Board of Regents regarding the approval or denial of charter school applications and the approval or return of proposed charters, and they coordinate the monitoring of charter schools, administer the Charter Schools Planning and Implementation Grants Program, and provide technical assistance to charter schools.
